where are you staying? i would love to meet up with you if this weren’t finals week!!! i’m in over my head, i’m afraid. enjoy the city, though! let me know if you have any more questions about realtors, etc.!

    xo

  2. noodlegirl says:

Ugh I know how you feel! I would be cranky too wow you did great with your meals though lol Welcome back to the States!

  3. ellie says:

Yay so happy you made it safe and sound :D Travelling always throws my meals into a spin- up for way more hours, time difference, etc. I tend to break my meals into smaller parts and eat more frequently, though inevitably end up cranky and hungry at some point.

    Enjoy your spa week!

  4. I like the idea of ’spa week.’ :) When I travel, I try to stick to a schedule, but also allow a few splurges. But thats usually because its a vacation.

  5. Miz says:

    one word INTUITIVE!!

I figure routine is around the corner so I 100% indulge when it’s vay cay travel (rarely travel for business these days…)

  6. Susan says:

Yayyyy you made it!! :D Ugh, I cannot imagine being awake and travelling for so long. I hope you’re getting rested up and adjusted! I have a really hard time listening to my body when I travel. For some reason I either get really hungry, or not hungry at all. So I try to stick to a similar 3-5 hour schedule. I just go into it knowing I’m going to eat more that day and that I should just get over it :P I’m often awake for 20 hours at a time because of my crazy early morning shifts. I start to feel guilty about how much I ate that day until I’m like “duh” if I’m awake longer I’m burning more calories and need more food!

  7. I can definitely relate to your travel woes…My trek back to Canada was from Phuket-Hong Kong-Seoul-Tokyo-Chicago-Toronto.

Eek…I was going crazy by the end of it…I did not sleep really that much and yes, my eating was very weird. They always feed you at such strange times on the airplane.
I opted for the low fat meal on the plane and was pleasantly surprised by the results.

  8. Glad to hear you made it safe and sound! : )

24 hours awake?? I would have been horribly cranky! ha.

  9. katherine says:

Welcome back to the States!!! Enjoy your “Spa Week” ;-)

  10. Elina says:

Welcome home! Does it cost extra to request a specialty meal? I’ve never done it – seems like a good idea :)

    • Thinspired says:

Nope, does not cost extra (at least not on United)! I was worried to order “low fat” at first (thought it might be a bunch of carbs), but it is actually just small things like a granola bar instead of a candy bar, and marinara sauce instead of cream sauce. It all helps, right? :)

  11. erika says:

Yay!!! You made it safely! I would love some hotel spa time, I think you should take full advantage of it!

  12. I have no idea how you managed a dinner with your hubby’s boss after being up for a full 24 hours! I can’t even function after being up for 20, let alone being jet-lagged. Yikes!

Hope you find a place soon and enjoy your spa!

  13. Lara! I think you did GREAT with your meals. I always LOVE traveling TO the UK because I somehow lose a meal and my cals are low for the day(s). But coming BACK??? Nightmare. Crazy high calories and that’s trying to listen to my body and reason with it at the same time: “You can’t POSSIBLY be hungry AGAIN, can you?” Like talking to a 2-yr old! :-/

Smart to tweet your eats. There was a really popular blogger Stephanie something (skinny jeans??) and she stopped blogging and now all she does is tweet- and really good ones too.

Yay for you and your day spa. Let’s call it Week Spa or Month Spa! Heckyeah!

So fun to have you on the same time zone, although it was fun to wake up and already have a comment from you at 5am my time :-)

I’m sooo behind on my blog reading but had to check in with you! :-)

  14. Haha calories don’t count at the airport or in the air — I love that:)

Traveling is such a wreck on my eating habits. The lure of the junk food at the airport always draws me in. I try to pack as many snacks as possible but it isn’t always ideal.

  15. K says:

Glad you guys made it safe and sound! When I travel I try to listen to my hunger cues but usually I’m so busy (because I travel for work 95% of the time) that I have to make myself eat when I get a chance.

  16. Love your thinking on airport calories…! I’m definitely in agreement there – especially when it involves last minute candy for the flight!

  17. Whit says:

Yay! So glad you guys made it!

  18. Lu says:

When I travel I pack a ton of snacks. It is hard to find healthy at the airport. I’m glad you made it to your destination. You totally deserve spa week. I mean, you just traveled across the world. :)

  19. Michelle says:

Hi Lara!! You are awesome and meticulous about recording your eats!! Thank you for all that!! I especially enjoyed your reference to the fact that MUHAHAHAH calories don’t count at the airport!!! I love that, especially since I had no idea you could get pancakes at the airport in the UK!! In my opinion, that’s wayyy better than a giant cinnabon from American airports. Hahaha

Lara I’m so happy you’re in the USA!!!! Sometimes it’s nice to live in a hotel in a while, but I definitely hope that you and Matt find a beautiful home of your own soon!!!

  20. It’s amazing how you managed to stay awake and still be sociable after 24 hours! I don’t think I can do that. LOL. But yes, I must agree that traveling for that long can alter our diet (healthy or not). I tend to eat less when I travel as I am a little picky but there were also instances when I would get hungry at every stop. LOL. I love your blog. Hope you don’t mind if I visit often.

  21. Erin says:

I tend to pack my food while traveling – my go-to vacation spot is a 9 hour drive. I hate stopping for longer than 10 minutes, so I always have a cooler in the passenger seat with all my eats. That makes it easy to stop for 2 reasons and 2 reasons only: fill up the tank and a potty run. I maybe flying in March, so I’ll have to remember to request a special meal!

So glad you’re back stateside! I’m sure you’re catching up on sleep, after being awake for so long!

  22. katie says:

yay! glad you made it back safe! rest up girl

  23. What a flight! Sorry to hear you didn’t sleep at all. I could imagine it was ROUGH! Still, it looks like you did a great job following your rules for traveling!

  24. Stacy R says:

Hi Lara! I just started following your blog yesterday, I didn’t realize you were from the Sacramento area! That is great as I always love to see where bloggers favorite restaurants are and I’ve lived in Sac for 7 years so it will be fun to see where you like to go out!

I hate traveling because I am still working on my intuitive eating I always use traveling as an excuse to eat unhealthy. Now I try to pack lara bars and fruit.

  25. Mel says:

Glad to hear you made the trip safe and sound! At least it sounds like you had some yummy eats despite staying up for so long.

  26. ohh love the spa week idea!! pool, gym, whole foods, seriously I think I could live with these three things for the rest of my life! :)

  27. julie says:

i am LOVIN this idea of spa week. pool + WF…im pretty sure you’ve earned a massage or facial in there somewhere ;)

  28. Pam says:

Welcome to Sacramento (well on Friday!). :-) Weather is chilly and rain predicted for Sunday!

Friday & Saturday is the California International Marathon Expo and Sunday is the actual marathon . . . it’s a great event to come out and cheer us runners on! Just dress warm! :-)

  29. Glad you made it to the States all safe and sound. Eating while traveling is challenging for me. I always try and stay on a schedule, but then usually end up eating all my packed snacks out of boredom. :)

  30. Amanda says:

I live in Sacramento and have been following your lovely blog. If you ever want to meet up, then we should get coffee! I live in downtown so there are tons of great places to relax and enjoy the gorgeous weather we’ve been having in Northern California. Have fun in the bay area!

  31. Paige (RAN) says:

Wow talk about jetlag! Don’t worry, sweetie, I think anyone would be cranky after that flight! But you made it – hooray!!
I’m with ya on the kinda just eat when I’m hungry, no matter the time, deal. It’s too complicated to try and wait it out for the appropriate time.

  32. You made it safe and sound! Yay!

I think just giving yourself a couple of days to get settled and don’t use this time as an excuse to throw eating out the window and you will do fine.

  33. Bekah says:

Enjoy your “spa week” Miss Lara. :) Totally deserved.

And I’m sure I’ve seen your faux apple pie before, but seriously- i looked at it again, it looks ah-mazing. Totally try-worthy.

Good luck with the house hunting!

  34. I am the same as you…when I travel, I eat when I am hungry…the time changes always mess me up, so I just go with what my body tells me.

  35. Hayley says:

I’m glad you made it safely! I find it really hard trying to stay on a schedule when I travel, especially when I fly overseas with a big time change. I just try and do my best to listen to my body, but most of the time I seem to eat LESS…perhaps because I am tired/groggy?? Have a great trip!!

  36. Glad you made it safe and sound! Hope you enjoy your week at the hotel. Sounds like fun–pool and whole foods :D

  37. glad you made it safe and sound =)

I really don’t know ho to eat either when it comes to traveling, eating, and time changes – When I went to SF last month I remember being thrown off for just the 3 hour time difference, I can’t imagine what you are going through.

take advantage of the spa week this week, you deserve it!

  38. elise says:

sounds like you did well for traveling. i always get so confused and just end up eating everything regardless of how much i packed! have fun in nor cal!!

  39. eatingrd says:

So glad you made it safely!! I hate long flights, ugh, just feel like crap. When I travel I try my best to eat normally, but your right it is hard when the options aren’t there. Hope you have fun at the spa, so jealous!!

  40. Chrysta says:

Im glad your trip is going well! I always pack massive snacks when I travel. Many containers of oatmeal. Ha! I try to just eat when im hungry because flying through different time zones makes it hard to stick to a schedule. Have fun!!!

  41. So glad you made it safely, even though you had to be completely exhausted. I haven’t flown trans-atlantic since I was a little girl, but I can just imagine how hard it all was.

Spa Week? What a fabulous idea!

  42. janetha says:

hahah calories don’t count in airports or in the air. love that. so glad you made it!! hooray! enjoy your hotel time :)
