Mommy & Me
Can I just say how happy it made me that y’all see the resemblance between me and my mother? People have asked me my whole life if I was adopted, and it just kills me. Thank you.
We’ve been having the best time! I’ve said it before, but home is where the mom is. I am back in Bristol, and my mom is now in London with my “step-sister” Jen. I use quotations because she is not technically my step-sister. I could only be so lucky. Jen is fabulous and, as far as we are concerned, she is like a sister to me. Pictures of her to come.
They both arrived on Saturday night and were able to stay up long enough to go out for Italian food. Then, on Sunday morning, we all headed to Bath. Jen has been to England many, many times, so really this trip was largely for my mom to get to experience it, too!
Lunch was quick, Mom and Jen had eaten at their hotel so Matthew and I had paninis in a coffee shop. I had a surprisingly delicious mozzarella, tomato, and basil panini, warmed up so the cheese was all melty.
I may have also had some potato chips. I should just fess up now that I have been eating horribly since Sunday. I have acted like I am the one on vacation and have totally overindulged. You’ll see!
Oh, and I thought I should give the back story about that first photo of me and mom in my last post. You see, it took a few takes to get there
Bath, as always, was wonderful.
The Royal Crescent, Bath.
After our day in Bath, we all came back to our flat for champagne and munchies.
Crackers & cheese, bread & balsamic dip, grapes, olives, and a champagne toast
Here’s one of me and Jen. There is only one word for Jen: fabulous.
At that point it was getting late, but Matthew & I kidnapped Mom for a quick tour around Bristol…
…and some late-night fish ‘n’ chips!
The two of us shared an order with a lovely glass of wine.
Don’t bother us. We’re eating.
Matthew was a stinker and ordered a sticky toffee pudding. I didn’t have any of this, but it foreshadowed the pudding I would eat later in the week!
I’ll be posting again soon about the rest of the week!
In the meantime, do you think you look like your mother? Do people comment on the resemblance or lack thereof? I am always interested in meeting people’s mothers for some reason!
PS: I didn’t end up buying the Mr Darcy bag…and I totally regret it!

Thanks for the wonderful pics, Lara!
You know that expression to know what a girl is gonna look like in 20 yrs, well just look at her mother? Well, you are in very good hands with the passage of time b/c your mom is stunning and the two of you make a stunning pair! I can’t wait to have these moments w/ Skylar. I posted yesterday about Mommy N Me pottery so the title of your post was cute to me
You and your mom totally look alike! Besides, who would ask someone if they are adopted?!
I think my mom and I look alike – especially when I see pictures of her at my age.
You guys really do look alike!!
oh my gawwwd you and your mom look GORGEOUS! you totally do look a like
Bath sounds like such a great place to visit and I’ve alwwwwaaaays wanted to go there! Now for sure it’s on my list of definite places to get
You two definitely look alike. People always tell me that I look like my mom. It is hard for me to notice because I always see her short blonde hair and my long brown hair and think we are opposites. Now for my sister, we don’t look alike at all!
You and mother looks so much alike!
Love the pictures!
You definitely look like your mom, especially the cheek bones and you are both gorgeous!
Ever since my daughter was born all I hear is how much she looks like my husband. At first it was fine, but I am so sick of hearing it and just want to scream, “I had a part in this too!!!”
And the fish and chips looks fab.
I had a part in this too! Uh, like in the DELIVERY ROOM!!
You look exactly like your mom, the face shape, the nose…all of it. I can’t believe people ask if you’re adopted!
I’m in love with that panini, the last time I ordered one it came cold!? I was so pissed & haven’t ordered one since. Now I’ve got a craving going…
I don’t know if I look like my mom. When people see the two of us together they say I do but they say the same thing if it’s just me and my dad. Personally, I think I am exactly 50-50. My mom’s nose, my dad’s build, my mom has blue eyes/my dad brown while mine are green, my mom has straight hair/my dad curly and mine is wavy. Total mix of all their traits.
I think you look a lot like your mum, you both have the same nose and cheekbones. It’s so cute that you guys are close. Are you ever in London?
The champagne and munchies look so yum, except the champagne.
You look so much like your mother. I definitely noticed in your blog from yesterday. I can’t believe people ask if you’re adopted!
Btw, your mom is gorgeous. She’s looks so young!
YOU AND YOUR MOM ARE GORGEOUS! and i do see a resemblance!
i am a perfect 50/50 blend of my mom and dead, so in some areas i totally look like her and sometimes not.
bath is GORGEOUS! the abbey, the royal crescent, the downtown, the actual baths (which themselves are not pretty
oh how i miss europe!
I don’t look anything like either of my parents. My mother’s skin is many shades darker than mine and she has jet-black hair and eyes, while my father is extremely fair with red hair and hazel eyes. I’m smack-dab in the middle of both, and the only detectable sign of inheritance is the shape of my nose. I don’t look like either of my brothers either, since one took after mom and the other after pop. I’m like the gray sheep.
Your hair looks so red in those outdoor pictures! Sweet baby Jesus in a manger, what is a sticky toffee pudding?!?
Mama Pea, maybe you can try to find a vegan version of sticky toffee pudding! You would be my hero! It is this murderous traditional English dessert that is sickeningly sweet but in a wonderful way. It’s basically this incredibly rich cake that tastes like caramel/toffee and served with custard or ice cream. Just tried it for the first time last week and I died.
I think you look a lot like your Mom especially the lower part of your face.
I look a lot like my Mom and I love that!
I understand where you’re coming from, my mom and I look NOTHING alike! I definitely take after my dad in terms of physical features. However you and your mom have very similar features (those cheekbones!!).
That bridge is so cool! So happy you had a great time with your visitors
Awww, such a cute post! I think you can call Jen your step-sister anyways. My parents have been with their mates forever, but never got married, so their kids are just like extra siblings to me. “Step-sister” is so much easier to say than “my mom’s boyfriend’s daughter.”
I think I’m a good mix of both my parents, but people tend to tell me I look like my mom the most. I think it’s just the hair though, be both have A LOT of it, and that’s all people can see
My mom and I look a little alike, but I’m the “female mini version” of my dad, haha
Oh my, I think I have mentioned in our email at least twice (or three x) my love for a good sticky toffee pudding. On one trip, I am embarrassed to admit I ate more then 2 portions at one sitting (I’ll leave it at that
).
Every UK trip, I look forward to toffee pudding, fish and chips and prawn mayo jackets or sandwiches …
I look a lot like my mom. Even more so, I sound like her! Even our coughs sound alike!
Love the pics! And yes, I totally see the resemblance between you and your mom.
I don’t look very much like my mom at all. When I was little, I looked a lot like my dad, but now I don’t really know whom I look like…
Our toddler doesn’t really look like hubby or me. When I was pregnant I had envisioned/hoped the baby would look like a mini version of hubby. When the toddler was first born, he definitely looked more Asian than now as he had dark hair. Now he has much lighter hair, almost blond, and doesn’t look like a mini Daddy at all…
But he is still cute (I think)!
Looking forward to see the rest of your week with your mom!
Glad you’ve been having a good time with your mom and Jen! And your husband of course.
Well, my mom and I don’t think we look alike but a lot of people have said that they think we do look alike… so who knows? :p
What great pics!! It looks like you have been having so much fun with your mom!!
I dont really look like mine.. but people say we do? Who knows?
ENJOY
wow! great pics! you both look so good in those pics!
Me and my mom dont really look alike but we have the SAME mannerisms. Its kinda odd=)
You DO look like your mom! Both very beautiful
Glad you enjoyed your time in Bath. I love being with my mother. We do look alike, but growing up people told me I look more like my dad (ugh…looking like a man? No thanks!) now they say I look like my mom, which makes me happy.
You and your mom are two of the most beautiful women! Wow, what a great weekend together. I am so thrilled that you had the chance to spend a few wonderful days with your mom.
I don’t think I look a thing like my mom except for the fact that we are both tiny! We are both so petite and I totally blame my abnormally tiny fingers on her. We both wear a size 3!!!!! No joke!
ummmm are you sure that is not your sister? your mom is gorgeous! and you are too, but you already know i think that
it must be so hard to live away from your mom. i can tell you are great friends. my mom is my best friend, i dont know what i would do if i couldnt talk to her daily! i dont think i could live that far from her. i dont think i look like my mom at all. glad you guys had fun.. i really enjoyed bath when i went!
I think you totally look like your SuperMom!
I do too, J! I am shocked people don’t see that! Oh, and my mom is going to love you for writing that. You are now officially her favorite blogger (besides me
)!
You 2 do look alike! Love the pictures, too. I would love to get to England some day (not just *New* England LOL).
I look like my Mom, who looks like her Mom. I think I know exactly what I will look like when I’m 90. Not sure if I am scared or not….
Oh my gosh girl, I can’t believe some people can’t see the resemblance between you two. You look so similar! It’s adorable
I’m glad you’ve been having such a great time. I love spending time with my mom
I don’t look all that much like my mom, but there’s a few resemblances. I look more like my grandpa on my dad’s side, haha.
You two are gorgeous. The photo outside the crescent is good enough to frame and put on the wall!
The eats don’t look too bad. You seem to complain about your eats not being very good, and yet photo after photo shows you looking slim as ever!
Can’t wait to read the rest of the recap.
I did look a bit like my mom, but she had this little tiny nose and I don’t have one of those!
Awww, you and your mom are both BEAUTIFUL! And I love those boots! xoxo
I am so jealous that you are in London! I love that city and I am hoping to go again this December. The scones alone are the best reason to go…
i totally agree.. home IS where the MOM is!! looks like yall are having a blast!!
aww this pics are so sweet! my mom is coming to london to visit me next week and i can’t wait!
people say me and my mom look alike in the face – our hair is totally different though. she has really really curly short hair dyed blonde and mine is brown and straight/wavy and longer.
oh man, sticky toffee pudding… they sure know how to make desserts here in the uk, don’t they?
Aww looks like so much fun! I can’t wait for the day when I can go back to England. I actually never had the sticky toffee pudding. It looks sooo good!
I’ve never been ‘compared’ to my mother in the looks department, but when I am wearing glasses, I’ve been told I look like my father. It’s genetically impossible, considering I am adopted, but I also can see what people mean, especially with our face shape, nose and mouth.
That sticky toffee pudding looks fabulous, and I don’t dare sneak another peek at the fish ‘n chips! Nom nom!
Hi Lara! I just wanted to tell you what I love most about Thinspired are your food photos. I’m a heavier asian than the typical so I am always watching (or trying to watch) what I eat. I get bored of the same things and I have been lazy and tried Nutrisystem because of it’s conveniency (is that even a word?) but now I just can’t even smell the food. I used to be Vegan about 4 years ago but stopped after 8 months after I got pregnant (what a coincidence). In that short time I felt the difference. Thanks for putting me back on track. I get excited starting my workday off with your site and new photos of meals. I went yesterday and finally got the Barney Butter. YYYUUMMM….seriously. Thanks for motivating me!! I am excited to start eating all natural healthy nutritions for my body again. My husband’s not because he thinks it’s so expensive! haha
P.S. Is your soup recipe posted anywhere? I would love to try to make it.
