Keep Calm and Carry On
It is a truth universally acknowledged that the week you are scheduled to have your hair cut, you will have great hair in the days leading up to your appointment. Without fail, this happens to me every time.
Last weekend was no exception, and, though it wasn’t anyone’s fault but my own, my hair is now back to being short after I was making great strides to grow it out.
Crumbs. On top of this, I have not been feeling so, uh, thinspired lately. This had meant limited wardrobe choices. Enter: Sweater dress and leggings.
I have worn this outfit twice since Sunday.
Beyond my hair and wardrobe issues, things have been a bit stressful lately in our house. Planning a move is tough. Planning a trans-Atlantic move is even tougher. And, while we have tons of support from everyone that is happy and excited to see us make this finally happen, there are others who are less than supportive and do not want to see us go.
My mom is coming to visit THIS weekend, and I must finish my home study coursework before then. I have taken the rest of the week off in hopes that things can start to come together before she gets here so I can enjoy her short visit.
Until that time, I am trying to remind myself of this beloved English motto:
For those of you who aren’t familiar, this was originally designed to be a motivational poster during WWII, but was never used. It is now widely known and very popular. I love it because I have found it to be a very accurate description of the British mindset!
That is the mug we recently bought for Matthew.
Here is the one we bought for me:
…Or should ownership be the other way around?!
I don’t have many food photos of the week thus far. I haven’t been on my best behavior. Far too much of this:
And not nearly enough of these:
One kitchen creation that is worth noting is Mama Pea’s recommended tofu ricotta. Thanks to the nutritional yeast sent to me by Jennie, I was finally able to try this out. I was very skeptical about it, but I was pleasantly surprised by the results!
It was perfect for use in a vegan lasagna. I layered marinara, zucchini rounds, WW noodles, and tofu ricotta for a simple, quick two-person serving. Because I relied a lot on zucchini, I only had to use about five lasagna sheets for the whole thing.
It was good, but not the kind of good that I would serve to company. The kind of good where it is edible and you are motivated to make it better next time. There is definitely room for improvement, but the “ricotta” is pretty rockin’.
I am off now to go read Eclipse work on my bountiful To-Do list. Before I go, I want to say a BIG THANK YOU to Lovely Lacey over at Livin’ Lovely & Healthy for sending me this awesome stash of Amazing Grass!
I have been wanting to try this for so long, but as a UK blogger I had not had the opportunity to sample it. On my last trip home, I contemplated buying some, but it was so expensive that I didn’t do it. Lacey was SO generous to send me this package. I can’t wait to try it. Thank you, Lacey!
How do you keep calm and carry on?
P.S. If you know the literary reference in the first line of this post, you are my new best friend

Hooray for the Momma visit! Everything will work out, don’t worry! I tend not to get upset – wait, I take that back. Unless my blood sugar is REALLY low, you don’t want to see me then!
Hugs!
Pride and Prejudice?..
I’m glad your mom is coming…mom’s have a way of making things feel okay. Moving is definitely one of the most stressful things to do. Keep calm and carry on, indeed!
I stay calm by talking to my dad, making “to do” lists (so helpful!), setting aside relaxation time for going for a walk/long hot shower. Feels counter-intuitive to spend time doing ‘nothing’ when there is so much stuff TO do but I always end up being more productive as a result.
i love that phrase. i think i would need the second mug though. im currently sitting in my PJs, after eating my 5th brownie, watching tv, with no intention of going to the gym. and i have no trans-atlantic move planning excuse, either. blah. not a very thinspired day…lets vow to change this tomorrow, ok?
OK now I’m very confused. It says that there are 62 comments and yet only 3 show up. AM I being dumb aka daft again or is it wordpress this time! Glad to see that blogger isn’t the only site with problemos.
Haha…under these comments there should be a link to “older comments.” I think when comments go over a certain amount, WordPress starts a second page.
i love your sweaterdress. so pretty!
You are so adorable miss Lara. You look so great, slim, healthy! Please don’t think otherwise!
But yummmm popcorn and salad both sound equally delicious right now.
Keep calm and carry on indeed! As a lifelong expat I can tell you a thing or two about moving stress. I’ve lived, worked and traveled in over 40 countries and it NEVER gets any easier. I just become resigned to the drama, put one foot in front of the other and always remember to take pleasure in the small things. If my whole house is in boxes, I have jetlag so bad I can’t remember my name, and the airline lost my luggage, I settle down to a few vegan s’mores and a good book. That is the ultimate stress reliever! Good luck and stay strong!
Enjoy the weekend with mom. Hope you’re able to finish up the coursework so you can relax
BTW, you look tiny in that pic. I say you go shopping for slightly “bigger” clothes so you don’t feel uncomfortable. Maybe mom can help in that dept?
I keep calm by breathing. Or, I should say, concentrating on my breathing. Thanks for your comment the other day. I loved Bikram yoga from the first day I did it. I had tried other yoga so the poses weren’t hard. If you’re a beginner to yoga I would try to find a Hatha or Ashtanga style class to get used to the poses. When you’re comfortable try Bikram. You should do fine. By the way, I love the sweater dress. It looks so cute on you. I understand how you would want to wear it twice in one week.
Hope your mood picks up a bit. Love the mugs.
“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” *sigh* I love Jane! I just recently found your blog and wanted to say how much I enjoy it.
Best of luck on your move.
You know what? I love the new hair! It’s super cute. I also love the outfit, and often find myself living in leggings during this time of year. So go for it.
I’m really digging your blog. Keep up the good work!
P&P. For.ever.
Just saw Debs mugs too! Ah, so cute. That should have been my motto through the holidays.
