Grateful List
Happy Thanksgiving!
I tweeted last night that I actually forgot for a while there that today is Thanksgiving. Obviously it’s not something the Brits are shouting from the streets, and I’ve been lost in a pile of boxes all week!
Luckily the blogosphere, ironically, brought me back to real life. Despite The Great Grocery Challenge (no, you didn’t miss a post, I just named it that), we will be having turkey tonight!
Whenever I am stressed, depressed, or cranky, my mother always tells me to make a grateful list. (I don’t want to divulge how many grateful lists I have
) Though I am not particularly any of those things today, I thought I’d give it a whirl in honor of Thanksgiving:
Some of the things I am grateful for today, in no particular order:
Food, obviously.
Yesterday’s Lunch: Zucchini, spinach, red onion, mushrooms, and shrimp with tomato sauce.
I think it’s quite humbling to realize that, while we are all documenting what we eat, and many of us agonizing over calories and cutting back, the majority of the world is actually hungry. The World Health Organization estimates that one-third of the world is well-fed, one-third is under-fed one-third is starving. Source. Think about it.
Friends. New friends, old friends, friends I have met, and friends I haven’t.
“Friends I haven’t,” means YOU GUYS.
The fact that, even though we will soon be technically homeless, we will not be stuff-less:
We have a pile of gift boxes from our wedding that we have not even unpacked yet. They are waiting in my childhood bedroom for us when we finally have a place to put them!
Family. Especially the kind that loves you unconditionally.
That this guy has stuck around for so long…
…And that he has no problems with letting me wear the pants crown.
And now I am off to pack, roast some turkey, and if I am lucky, hit the gym. Before I do, I’d like to leave you with my favorite little Thanksgiving poem:
May your stuffing be tasty
May your turkey plump,
May your potatoes and gravy
Have never a lump.
May your yams be delicious
And your pies take the prize,
And may your Thanksgiving dinner
Stay off of your thighs!
