I love shortbread cookies. So good. But dangerous.

  2. Melissa says:

Monster cookies are in one word… addicting!!

  3. Lainie says:

Your green monsters are so much more photogenic than mine! Mine never turn out that pretty looking :) MY favorite cookie recipe is probably any type of chocolate chip cookie…or peanut butter cookie…or oatmeal raisin. I kind of love them all :)

  4. Oh you so deserve that award! One thing about cardio vs. weight training IMO: yes, cardio definitely has immediate gratification but weight training yields long-term gratification :-)

Hmmm, no recipes off-hand but I love Walker’s shortbread and digestive biscuits (does that count as a cookie?) My mom also makes a mean macaroon that I always love!

I understand what you mean about cardio vs weights. However I’m finding that the more I lift, the more I really love it and the harder I work myself and try to be “tough” the more satisfaction I do feel afterward. (And I like being “good” sore from it ; )

    Cookies = yum!

  6. EatingRD says:

Wonderful eats! I try to weight train at least 2x/week since I enjoy cardio more and of course it burns more calores and feels like a better workout for me! They say 2-3x/week is the most beneficial for results. Most of the time I can only fit in 1x/week. I love your GMs! they look so bright. mmmm . . . I haven’t made cookies in ages! I love pb oatmeal chip cookies. I remember my grandma always making cookies and me eating them all yum! Night!

I never would have though broccoli stems would have juice at all! Interesting :)

I admit it…I don’t weight train. I stopped a year ago? But I still do abs 3xs a week and yoga. I believe that yoga is enough for me. Those lunges, squats, and push ups (warrior poses, don’t know what it’s called, and chatarungas) make me super sore, so I figure it’s good enough :)

I found my favorite cookie recipe last year. It is absolutely amazing –> http://www.bakeorbreak.com/2008/02/22/dark-chocolate-chunk-and-dried-cherry-oatmeal-cookies/
My goal is to healthify it somehow without losing ANY of the flavor!

  8. I do love my cardio! Weight training can be such a snooze to me! So I do my weight lifting in classes, which turns out to be 2x’s a week. It works for me:)

  9. katey says:

    those cookies look awesomee!!!

  10. Kailey says:

your dinner is crazy good. Love chicken/rice pilaf/broccoli combo!! you are quite the chef my dear :)

can’t wait to read those articles – thanks for posting them!

  11. Susan says:

Ha, I love the math on that cookie recipe :P I try to do a full-out weight workout twice a week, but I think it actually works out to two every 8-10 days. I definitely get in more cardio. But that’s just because it’s summer and I want to do cardio outside while I can! When it’s winter, I take up shop inside the weight room again ;)

  12. Gina says:

I’m glad you did a bit of indulging today, and what a great choice of cookie! I love peanut butter chocolate chip cookies, they are my favorite.

I weight train about 15-20 minutes a day, with 8-10 pound weights, nothing serious. Some days I go for about 45 minutes and do other, stationary machines too. I enjoy weight training, but I don’t take it too seriously.

  13. Sheri says:

    Your monster looks beautiful!

I weight train about 3 times per week for about 20-30 mintues somtimes I follow it with cardio or I do my cardio on alternate days. I love weight training it challenges me and makes me feel strong!

  14. Julie says:

hey lady :) I dedicated my post to you today! check it out

My favorite cookies are from the Veganomicon cookbook- they are double chocolate chip walnut!! So delicious :)

  16. justine says:

That first juice looks beautiful!!! What kinda camera do you have? Love your eats. Simple, varied, delicious. Girl, I know everyone says this but I swear by it that I have the best cc cookie recipe ever. Its a secret recipe that my aunt gave me and I have yet to find one that matched it. I even typed the recipe in google to see if I could find where it came from and there were no matches. If you ever want it let me know. I usually only make them for Christmas because they are so sinful!@!!

Oh glorious washer and dryer! I finally have a place where I don’t have to go to a laundr-o-mat. Too bad my parents live so far away from where I study hehe. Anyway, I’m loving those raw almonds. I have to resupply my stock ASAP. As for weight training, I try to get it in atleast twice a week, but no more than 3.

I wanted to bake something tonight in my new place, but my stomach and body are just not feeling well at all. It feels like I caught a bug or something :\

    Hope you’re doing well, Lara!

    XO

  18. Angharad says:

I love strength training but only because I go to Body Pump classes and pretty much any class gets me going! :) I cannot for the life of me motivate myself to do weight on my own so I need the class – I wish I did it more – for me it’s the perfect workout when I’m too tired for cardio.

    Lovely looking cookies!

  19. Melinda says:

i totally understand the whole cardio vs. weight training thing! i can force myself to do cardio with no problem, but i realllly have to dig deep for strength training. i’ve been totally slacking lately on that– thanks for the reminder! and your dinner looks so healthy and satisfying :-)

  20. Almonds and wine. That is my go-to snack when I have a glass!

Your eats look great and I think I’m craving some cookies now! I love to bake but can never stop at just one or two servings. If I make a cake I eat at least 3 pieces right out of the pan with a fork. BAD.

I was debating on the whole cardio/weights thing just this evening, I think 2 weight sessions a week is about all I can handle. Have a great day!

  21. Michelle T says:

ahhh healthy shmelthy…those cookies look GREAT!! Just like I like ‘em, soft and chewy..yes? hehehe or am i just making that up?

I love that many of your lunches are so breakfasty and…sweet! for the most part! I sometimes feel naughty if I have a lunch or dinner that isn’t salty or “substantial”, but hey as long as you get all your nutrients, it’s ok right? I might have to do the Lara and jump on the juicy bandwagon. hehee

  22. Kristie says:

Love the smoothie pic, it’s super gorgeouso!
And I love how frothy your green juice gets too. I really want to try some homemade juice one of these days, it looks so refreshing!

I rarely have full weight training sessions. Mainly because I don’t work out at a gym so I only use my free weights and such. I try to do little things here and there a few times a week but I SHOULD do it a bit more. At least once a week I try to do a more strength focused DVD workout though eg Tae bo or P90X.

Mmm cookies. I love trying out new recipes so I think I make a different one pretty much every time I make cookies haha.

  23. Great food! :) Your cookies look good. I’m not a big cookie person, but my son makes a good cinnamon cookie.

I do like to lift weights because it’s actually what really changed my body when I hit a HUGE plateau. I used to lift just a few weights about two times per week. But several months ago, I got much more serious and put together a “routine.” Nothing fancy (and I’m sure I’m doing a bunch of things wrong), but I basically make sure to work arms, shoulders, back & legs. I lift every other day. I have come to really like the feeling I get from lifting weights; I feel strong! ;) Plus, working my back more has really helped with the back pain I have been getting from lifting a quite heavy toddler (and, yes, old age). In fact, my back pain is gone. And, finally, I have gone down a dress size (or even a bit more than a size), but I haven’t really lost a lot of weight. I feel things are more “where they are supposed to be.” ;)

  24. Thinspired says:

Maria: Thanks for the recipe! Those look delicious!

Justine: We have the Nikon D60 dSLR. It’s a good little camera if you know how to use it right…I am still learning ;)

  25. lauren says:

those cookies look delicious :) i need to find a good reciepe and get back to you on that one :)

i love the green smoothies and juices..they look so vibrant and fresh!

I tend to just do arm weights at home and i usually aim for maybe 3 times a week? I do 3 sets of 15 with 2.5 weights ( i need heavier ones now i think, i just havent gotten around to buying them!) of each excersise.

Enjoy the rest of your night hun! and thanks for the sweet comment on my last post by the way :)

  26. Miz says:

I laugh that we SHREK SHAKE every morning here.

and I know soon the word PRINCESS will replace the SHREK LOVE.

then I guess Ill use beets for pink? :)

  27. EMILY says:

I am terrible when it comes to weight training. I just get such a buzz from cardio that I never get from weights!

  28. That food looks delicious! I’ve never been one to do the shakes – I may have to change my ways!

I weight train two days a week, sometimes three. I didn’t start until I was under 200 pounds though.

I’m probably not as consistent as I should be, but I do my best!

  29. Erin says:

    Hey girl.
I just wanna give you a majorly big hug for returning to moderate eating habits. I am so happy to see a blog filled with nutritious and normal-portion sized amounts of food (as opposed to the paltry meals we see everywhere). I love that you ate cookies b/c we ALL eat cookies.

    Anyway. *hugs to you*

I adore oatmeal raisin and I want YOUR recipe, lol!

I use weights twice a week, that’s it.

  30. Elina says:

I now weight train twice a week (since my training schedule is running centric) but I used to do it every one day (with whatever rest days I needed). I really LOVE weight training. Could do it everyday really. Love it!
Those cookies look delicious. Lately I’ve been less scared to make “unhealthy” cookies because they are more satisfying in my opinion… as long as I eat them in moderation of course. :D
    Beautiful eats!

  31. K says:

Back when I was training in my sport, when we had work outs we did cardio and weight training the same day. We would work out for an hour and the time would be split up. I heart weight training though :)

Your green monsters/juices are always so vibrant! Whenever I bake I always have the opposite problem! The recipe says 24 cookies and I end up with like 18!

  32. Lara says:

I lift weights 2-3x week. Doing a proper weight routine (no baby pink dumbbells here) did so much more for my body then tons of cardio ever did. I love how it makes me stronger and leaner. Heavy lifting using compound movements really does change your body for the better and helps strengthen our bones which is super important for women.

  33. april says:

I love that pb pizza!! I need to make one of those asap!

I do weight training a lot actually- for some reason I love it! But like you said I feel like I always get a better workout when I do cardio!

  34. Cindy says:

I adore cookies … but haven’t had any in quite a while…. peanut butter is def a fav… and oatmeal rasin.

and a good sugar cookie with icing is always a holiday favorite!

better go hit the weights now!
Thanks for stopping by my blog!!!

    Happy Thursday

  35. maris says:

I just made my first smoothie yesterday but I need to work on my “recipe.” I used ice, blueberries, milk, yogurt and honey. Of course, I drank it all but it wasn’t *quite* right.

  36. I’ve never made cookies before!! I haven’t gotten into baking… yet! As far as lifting – I just got back on to my ‘for real’ program and it’s 3 days lifting, 3 days abs (ex. Mon: chest/tris shoulders; Wed: back/bis; Fri: Legs; Tuesday/Thurs./Sat.: abs) :) Love it!

  37. ~Carla~ says:

    Everything looks delicious!!

I do weights every other day (30 Day Shred right now), with Cardio every other day. Pilates every night. :)

I have *THE* most delicious cookie recipe, but it’s evil. lol!! Martha Stewart Carrot Cake cookies.. my mom made these a while ago, and they are honestly the BEST i’ve ever tried in my life. BUT, definitely NOT low-cal/low-fat/healthy by any means… LOL!!

    http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/carrot-cake-sandwich-cookies

    Don’t say I didn’t warn you… ;)

  38. Alison says:

Your smoothie looks great! And so do those cookies – although they’d be better with chocolate :-)

  39. katecooks says:

i am the same way with weight training! i need to start doing it more. as in, i do it never now LOL. wine and cookies look SO good! esp the wine :)

  40. Jessica says:

wow what a green green monster! gorg!
I used to weight train every day or every other day. now. . . never. lol. I don’t have a membership to teh gym. But once school starts, i have access to the rec center and ill be there a lot so i’ll be doing something every day.
my fave cookie recipe? heck, anything homeade with choc chips. Mmm.
    -muffy

  41. janetha says:

hahaha a long time ago i had a blog post titled similar to this one. gotta love the waiting game, eh?! i weight train every other day, so 3 times a week. alternating upper and lower workouts. i like weight training because i love the idea of the fact that the more muscle you have the more calories you burn in your sleep due to the increased BMR! love that. so i sometimes pick weight training over cardio, i definitely like it better. i laughed pretty hard at the cookie math story. what the?? i like all cookie recipes! but the chocolate chip one on my blog is probably my fave.

  42. That drink looks good! Does it taste good? Can you really taste the spinach?
