FAQ: How We Met
Disclaimer: This post is not at all food or health related, but these questions were fun to answer!
Sam asked: Lara, how did you and Matthew meet? I’d love to hear that story!
K asked: I don’t know if you’ve mentioned this before but I’d love to know how you and your hubs met. If you have mentioned it, I’m sorry!
Jess asked: I know you’re in the UK – how did you end up there?
All of these have the same answer
Matthew and I met when I was still in high school! He was on a skiing “holiday” after finishing exams. Essentially we were introduced by a mutual friend. The night we met, over a spaghetti dinner, I told him I had never before been skiing. He found this outrageous and the next day, I was skiing with a bunch of strangers from England. We spent as much time together as we could that week and spoke every day after that! A few months later, he flew from London to California for the sole purpose of escorting me to Prom.
I have to say, this was a big deal at the time and was quite the talk of my little town for a while after that!
We dated long-distance for over five years while I finished high school and college. It was incredibly difficult but somehow we did it! We spoke every day, and he managed to be there for me at every major event. On average he would come out and visit every couple of months. We had a lot of fun on those trips, because each one felt like a vacation.
Within three months of my college graduation, I high-tailed it to London. I figured it would be the only time in my life when I could just drop everything and have some fun. This was completely out of character for me, but love makes you do wacky things!
It was only supposed to be a six-month stay. We’ve now been married a year and I’ve been in Britain for almost two!
Why did I stay? Well, he still makes a good Prom party date…
He’s great with kids…
He humors his mother’s questionable fashion picks…
And he will provide me with a cheesy smile on demand (very important).
Oh, and he looks good driving a sports car.
But most of all, because he’s one of the few people in the world who can get me to LIGHTEN UP!
Thanks for the fun questions, ladies! Keep ‘em coming!

Hi Lara,
When a long distance relationship endures for as long as yours did, it’s true love indeed. So, the follow-up question is…are you both planning to return to the US?
Regarding ice cream makers – We eat lots of frogurt in our house, so the gadget pays for itself after only a few batches. And the freshness from the homemade variety tops even the premium brands from the store. Imagine – you can make gelato like the scoops you had in Siena.
What a great post! Thanks for sharing your story.
And I love the pics!
too cute!!! Loved the story!! Thanks for sharing
