An Inconvenient Truth
A little neglect may breed mischief. ![]()

I have been neglecting the blog, which is a reflection of the fact that I have been neglecting myself. Not enough veggies, not enough sleep, just generally not enough balance. It shows. I feel drained of energy and my jeans are tight. I freaking hate tight jeans.
However, I have not escaped this blogging hiatus without learning a few little tidbits of information to share with y’all. I’m hoping they might be helpful.
Truth:
Too many of these:
And not enough of these:
…does not make you feel very great after weeks of overindulgence.
Other newly-learned facts:
To eat a healthy diet, one should visit the grocery store regularly:
Justin’s Almond Butter needs to come in larger packs:
One can eat year-old wedding cake and, not only live to tell the tale, but actually enjoy it:
Men can learn to like Green Monsters, too:
However, it might take me a little while to learn to love vegetable juice:
Last but not least:
Entertaining relatives is a lot of work!
I’ll be back soon!

Ha I recently got my Ireland born and raised meat and tato eating hubby to love green smoothies! Miraculous!
If it makes you feel any better, I’m going through a lot of the same stuff you are… Hang in there, life (and weight) ebbs and flows, it’ll get better
Hugs my dear! This is a rough time of year for me too, since I’m so busy and so tired ALL THE TIME!
Haha, I really like this post. The look on your husband’s face before trying the GM is priceless. If I could convince mine to even try spinach, he’d be doing the same thing…
I know what you mean about tight jeans, but if (somehow) it makes you feel better I always fall off the wagon as soon as I get back from a trip. I’m sure you’ll bounce back soon! Out of curiosity, do you have a juicer? If so, what kind?
Nice post. It’s amazingly frustrating how easy it is to fall back into bad habits. I had a big snack today of ice cream – I was starving at the time. But now I feel all bloated. Weekends cause me to make all sorts of bad choice. But the blog definitely inspires me to eat better.
Luckily, it’s just as easy to step back on the wagon as to step off. Good luck!
I’m sure it’s hard coming back from a wonderful vacation in a beautiful city filled with wonderful food and throwing yourself back into “healthy eating in America”.
Glad you enjoyed your wedding cake, that’s so awesome! As for getting back into fruits and veggies, I think you are right, it requires frequent grocery visits, ugh. But, it’s always worth it
Cute post! Enjoy time with your relatives and have a big salad to help you feel better
I LOVE the picture of the cupcakes with your wedding photo in the background
Sorry you’ve been having a blah few days! That Barney Butter picture almost made me cry though. One should never have an empty BB jar!
I hope you start to feel better and more energized very soon! Isn’t admitting the problem the first step in recovery
Now you can begin recovery to appreciating yourself because you deserve it!!
Love the post
Livin’ and learnin I suppose!! I’m definitely anticipating my wedding primarily for cake tasting..is that odd?
I think being able to let go of all this stuff is great though
You’ll be back on track in no time.
Sorry for the slump. Hope you are doing well.
P.S. I think I saw your name on the Summit ticket list. That is so exciting. Can’t wait to meet you and give you a big hug.
I love the pictures! Pictures can be so powerful… I hope you’ll have a week filled with veggies, enough sleep & balance!
Sorry things are a little rocky Lara- everyone gets in funks now and again…sending good vibes your way
Lara!! Don’t even stress about the tighter jeans, the second you start getting those veggies back into your diet (even with the cupcakes included), you’ll feel better in no time!! I know it!
love all the pictures hun! and dont stress about not “taking care of yourself ” as much lately, its all in the past, you can change what happens in the present and future and thats all that counts
hope you feel more energized soon!
i just saw the comment you left me and i had to reply..it totally made me sile how you mentioned those oats white choc bars you recommended…i saw them in tesco at the weekend and had to buy them haha
i havent tried them yet but they sound like my kinda bar…damn you know me well
Hayley: I don’t have a juicer (yet)! That juice was from the Whole Foods juice bar in London.
Lauren: I think you’re going to love them
I just had one with brekkie.
Hope you feel better soon Lara. I love how honest you are on your blog. No-ones perfect, and eating well and taking care of yourself can be HARD. Hope things get back on track soon, but try not to beat yourself up too much
.
Ahhh, all part of life’s ups and downs I guess! We really live and learn, don’t we? I have no doubt the cupcakes will be replaced by salads and you’ll be feeling comfy in your jeans again soon. The important part is realizing what the causes are and how to fix them
However, I think you should feel NO shame in scraping that PB packet clean!! I think that is a prime example of “taking care of yourself”
I can’t wait for you to come back!!
Don’t worry about your eating.. it will all go back to normal soon enough!
I hope you feel better soon! And try not to worry about it. Everyone goes through rough patches once in a while–no one’s perfect! I’m sure you’ll be back on the healthy eating wagon soon enough
i cannot even begin to tell you how i agree. seriously, the second i stopped photographing food or blogging about it, i started making excuses to eat SO much crap id never eat ordinarily (yeah, i was on vacay but still…)
i felt horrible after, my stomach was SO confused and in knots, i felt mentally dulled, and psychologically i was pissed. no healthy by any means, but i decided to cut the shit and get over it because thats the only thing to do.
im sure youre doing the same…and since we seem to be so alike, try not to beat yourself up over it, and instead, just focus on the future and moving forward based on what you learned
xx
Love the icky face pic of the manz with the green monster! LOL.
Ups and downs, peaks and valleys, all part of life. It’s what makes us normal.
<—-makes a mental note to tell self that!
I can’t stomach veggie juice either. I love vegetables, all kinds raw and cooked but juiced they are ick!
I like green monsters. But I don’t know how I would like the veggie juice.
and fluctuations in weight and life are normal:) Although frustrating!
The green monster was surprisingly good! I would definately have another!
Hugs to you!
Aww, those cupcakes look good.. Don’t feel bad about a little indulgence. There’s plenty of time to enjoy salad (cute cupcakes are far rarer to find!)
Haha – love love the comment by the Husband! I’ve recently gotten my dad hooked on green monsters. They definately look worse than they taste!
omg it looks like you had the most AMAZING trip ever! im glad you indulged, because vacation is about splurging on things you wouldn’t normally have! oh man i wanna get my bf to try a green monster, he won’t go near it! haha. missed you girl MUCHO!
ahaha I loved this post!
i wish I had one of those cupcakes. they look awesome.
you are missed! hope all is well =)
Love the post. It was almost like reading about myself as I think I have 5 bad days to every 3 good days. It doesn’t even things out…
OMG Matt’s face while drinking his green smoothie makes me wonder if in fact he is enjoying it!!
