Reality Check (dinner 05/29/09)

I think this quotation really captures the gist of Intuitive Eating. In all honesty, I am not sure I am ready for this yet. I remember reading something by Kath a while back and she said that she actually started this book when she first entered maintenance but didn’t feel quite ready at that point, either. I am sort of on the tight rope with this and not quite sure where I am. I’m either totally not ready or actually on the verge of a real breakthrough. I’ve had a tough week but part of me feels like the worst is behind me…I can do this.
Besides that little reflection, this is just a quick post to wish everyone a Happy Friday!
I am keeping up with my daily green monsters (I think these count as a “green food” for Maggie’s Whole Life Challenge?):
BUT, tonight also involved a little of this:
I guess that’s what I call “balance.”
Oh, and check out my fashionista T-shirt for today’s workout:
I got this after my race but forgot that I had it! Today I pulled it out before I went to the gym and wore it with pride! Er, I thought I only ran a 10k, but this shirt says I ran a half marathon for some reason. I feel a little phony! I do miss running but my slightly longer, lower-impact cardio along with my weights lately is fairly satisfying. Today I did my weight routine and also walked on the treadmill at varying inclines for an hour while I watched The Biggest Loser. I’m just catching up with the UK season.
Is there anyone out there in the UK that is into The Apprentice? Wow, this post is making me realize that I watch way too much TV. But seriously, I am watching the latest episode now. I can’t stand Deborah. I hope she gets kicked off.
Moving on…
Here is dinner:
Salmon is one of my favorite foods ever. I really don’t think I could ever give it up and be a happy person! Tonight I had some with roast veggies (carrots, brussel sprouts, onions and red bell peppers).
We are spending this weekend at my in-laws house so I am not sure about blogging. However, I will be back in full force on Monday for sure.
Are you into reality TV? I was never a fan in the past. I used to say “I have enough reality.” But lately I’m obsessed with Jon & Kate, The Apprentice, The Real Housewives and The Biggest Loser!

Totally a reality show whore!
I watch them all. The biggest Loser, the apprentice, the real world, little people big world, jon & kate +8, chopped, Hell’s kitchen, etc….
It’s a sickness! My poor hubby watches it all with me too!
Salmon is my fave fish by far!! Love its flavor. As far as reality – i’m a fan of The Hills, America’s Next Top Model and the Biggest Loser. Although, don’t tell anyone, but I watched two episodes of Hitched or Ditched. OMG it’s SO bad – but it’s like a trainwreck… Love it! haha
I love salmon too! I’m working on intuitive eating as well. It is very hard to do so when your used to counting calories for a long time. But I think i’m ready now to start this challenge! And I know you will sometime soon too
I am so addicted to some of the reality shows! Last night I watched Tori And Dean, the the NJ Housewives. I don’t watch much TV, but that stuff is too entertaining. And love the shirt – very cute!
Obsessed with reality TV!! You will be able to eat intuitively!! If I can I know you can. Sorry for the rough week

Lara, I think you’re absolutley beautiful and fit and cute, let’s get that out of the way.
A 10k is a really long run in my book – glad you busted out the shirt!
Salmon is the best seafood. Yours look great.
I am a reality TV junkie! I watch Housewives, Daisy of Love, and Charm School – so embarrassing!
hope things are going well Lara!
Hey sweety! How ya doin’? The intuitive eating is really tough. Especially as we live in a western society filled with constant impulses and reminders of the food that is available. I think you can sort stick to a plan and at the same time stay in touch with what your feeling.
Hi Lara, thanks so much for visiting my blog! In response to your comment, I think finding that balance is probably always going to be a challenge for me. I actually really enjoy Intuitive Eating and it served as a good turning point, but it seems like you’ve already made that transition. When I read that book, I really accepted that I had a problem and needed to work on finding balance. Two of the biggest lessons I learned from the book were:
1. Learn to be happy with yourself NOW and accept that you may never have the exact body you’ve always dreamed of. (I honestly struggle with this every day, but I feel like making the effort is half the battle!) Also, banish negative self-talk/food police. Every time I start to think something negative about my body. I force myself to stop and say/think something positive.
2. No food can be off limits. This is an ongoing project for me. I was so used to counting calories that I still feel comforted when I have a tally in the back of my mind. But, adding foods like peanut butter, back into my life has been a huge step for me. When I first read the book, I gave myself permission to have whatever I wanted for lunch every day. You know what? I had peanut butter and jelly EVERY DAY and it was amazing! And I didn’t gain an ounce for the three weeks that I was really following the guidelines in the book.
However, I know I should revisit the text b/c I stopped following its advice since my goal was still to lose weight (I’m sloooowly learning to accept my body – see point #1) so I highly recommend it!
Whew, sorry for the long response, but this is a topic I’m just so passionate about. Good luck!
I am a reality tv junkie! I figure their reality isn’t mine, and its a great escape!
Hey Lara, haven’t heard from you… are you alright these days??? How is June going for you?
Hi Lara, I’m also checking-in. I see you posting on various blogs and want to thank you for dropping by mine this morning too. Hope all is well.
I am a total reality tv junkie! I am kind of embarrassed by it, but whatever! I’m just happy for the nice weather-I am committed to watching less tv and spending more time outside. Love the race shirt!
