Days Like This (lunch 12/18/08)
One of the songs I chose for our wedding DVD is Van Morrison’s “Days Like This.”
When you don’t need an answer there’ll be days like this
When you don’t meet a chancer there’ll be days like this
When all the parts of the puzzle start to look like they fit
Then I must remember there’ll be days like this
I can’t get the lyrics out of my head after such an amazing day today, and it’s not over yet. We spent the afternoon driving around the island, seeing the many sights of Oahu and enjoying as much as we could. We stopped often and I have a plethora of amazing photos. Though it rained in Waikiki we caught some amazing sun on the North Shore and frolicked on Sunset Beach for a good couple hours before resuming the journey.
There were a few naysayers out there who seriously asked me, “Why would you choose Hawaii for your honeymoon?” Usually I just laugh it off but today, this would be my response:
We stopped for lunch on the East Shore and I got an AMAZING salad from a place called Aloha Salads. This thing cost more than a steak dinner in some places but it was totally worth it. Everything is fresh and local. I created my own combo with a half romaine, half spinach base, topped with mango, papaya, pineapple, strawberries, grilled chicken, and a little parmesan cheese for good measure. I had some fat-free raspberry vinaigrette on the side. I am definitely one of those people who loves fruit in my salad!
The salad came with some pita bread, which the lady insisted was fresh baked with no additives or fat (that means no butter, I assume). Though it was white flour I ate it anyway because it smelled delicious..and it was!
If you were to ask my husband, “What is the one thing you really want to do in Hawaii?” His answer is: visit the Dole Pineapple Plantation. He is so silly. You see, every day he takes a little Dole pineapple cup in his lunchbox, and it is his favorite part of the meal. So we went and got him decked out with lots of goodies (perhaps he will model them later!). There were so many amazing pineapple treats there! We shared a chocolate-covered pineapple stick. WOW.
A girl could get used to this!

YUM! looks like you’re having a blaaast- I remember that now about hawaii- some stuff, aka FOOD, is so expensive!
it’s definitely worth it though, have fun!
Wait, why wouldn’t you choose Hawaii for a honeymoon?
Beautiful pictures! So glad you’re having a great time! Can’t wait to hear about the rest of your trip!
SUCH gorgeous views!!
wow, so beautiful!!!
I WANT A PINEAPPLE ON A STICK!! haha. I definitely could get used to that
.
Gorgeous!! You, him AND the scenery!!!
E: My thoughts exactly! I guess some people find it (especially Oahu) a bit touristy.
Yum.
I love how there is fresh pineapple with every meal in Hawaii. We had breakfast at McDonalds one time (I know, kind of gross but my hubby wanted it and we had it to go and ate on the beach) and even that meal came with pineapple!
Those pictures look beautiful!!!
